Go Narrow

Privacy policy

Last updated 9 October 2026. This policy applies to the Go Narrow app (also listed as “Go Narrow: Antibiotics Game”) on Google Play and the App Store.

Who is responsible

Go Narrow is made by Johanna Galaski, Germany, who is the controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Contact: coverthebug@gmail.com.

What the app collects

The app sends data in two cases only, and only when you choose to: if you take part in the optional Night Shift leaderboard, your score goes to Apple or Google; and if you send the optional feedback form or a “Report a mistake” report, what you send goes to the developer. Both are described below.

Otherwise the app makes no network requests. It has no accounts of its own, no advertising, no analytics, no crash reporting SDK and no tracking, and it never sends your progress or any device data to the developer.

Night Shift leaderboard

If you are signed in to Game Center (iPhone) or Google Play Games (Android), the app sends your Today’s shift score to that service so it can appear on the leaderboard under your Game Center or Play Games name. Nothing else is sent: practice scores, your progress and your answers stay on your phone. If you are not signed in, nothing is sent.

Apple or Google receives the score together with your player name and player ID, and processes them under its own privacy policy (Apple, Google). On Android, Google Play Games may also collect diagnostic data and device identifiers for its own service. The developer can see the leaderboard as other players do, but receives no other data about you. The score is sent on the basis of Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, to provide the leaderboard you chose to take part in. You can remove yourself by signing out of Game Center or Play Games, and manage or delete your data in your Apple or Google account settings.

Feedback form

If you open “Help shape Go Narrow” under ⋯ and tap Send, the app sends your answers: your field and stage, the reasons and parts of the app you ticked, the pathogens and antibiotics you suggest and anything you type, together with the app version and whether you use iOS or Android. It does not send your name, email address, a device identifier or your progress. Nothing is sent unless you tap Send.

The same goes for “Report a mistake”, the small flag at the top right of a page or next to a level’s message: if you pick a reason and tap Send report, the app sends the reason, anything you type, the name of the screen and the text it showed, the app version and whether you use iOS or Android. Reports are handled like feedback answers.

The answers are stored in a Google Sheet through Google Apps Script (Google LLC, USA, certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework), which processes them on the developer’s behalf. As with any connection, Google receives your IP address; the developer does not store it. The answers are used only to improve Go Narrow and are deleted once they are no longer needed for that. Legal basis: your consent when you tap Send (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Please don’t type personal details into the free-text fields. To have an answer deleted, write to coverthebug@gmail.com with roughly when you sent it.

What stays on your device

Your game progress (stars, scores, daily results, study topics, review plates and settings) is stored on your device so you can continue where you left off. It is never sent to the developer. If your phone’s own backup is turned on (Google backup on Android, iCloud on iPhone), it is included there, in your account, so it can come back on a new phone. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its data, deletes it from the device.

Contacting support

If you email support, for example with the error report button in the app, your email app sends your message, email address and anything you include to the address above. The error report only pre-fills the app version. Your message is used only to answer you and to fix the content. It is processed on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (answering your enquiry), is not shared, and is deleted when it is no longer needed for that purpose. The mailbox is hosted by Google (Gmail), which processes messages on the developer’s behalf.

App stores

When you download the app, Google Play or the App Store processes data such as your account and device details under their own privacy policies. If you have agreed to share usage and diagnostics with Google or Apple, they may give the developer anonymous, aggregated statistics such as install counts and crash rates. These do not identify you.

Who data is shared with

Data is never sold and never used for advertising.

Children

The app is made for medical students and health professionals and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect data from children.

Your rights

Apart from feedback answers and reports you choose to send, the developer holds no data about you from the app. For leaderboard data, Apple and Google handle your requests through your account settings. For feedback answers, mistake reports and support emails you have the right to access, correction, deletion, restriction of processing and objection (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR); write to the address above. You can withdraw your consent for feedback answers at any time with effect for the future by asking for them to be deleted. You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority, for example the one in the German state where the developer lives (Landesbeauftragter für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg).

Changes

If a future version sends any other data online, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the date above will change.
